Last night was our first board meeting. I think that it went well. It was decided that we will serve all of Carbon and Schuylkill counties. In addition to that, we will now accept donations of coats. Our Facebook marketplace and loose change fundraisers are on-going. We've also added a Valentine's Day cookie sale. We are so close to having enough money to file the 1023 ez. I'm overjoyed!
As it stands right now, the Articles of Incorporation were officially accepted. We've raised $165 toward tax exemption paperwork. The winner of the $50 raffle was Thomas Welsh. Congratulations to him! Our Facebook Marketplace fundraiser is ongoing.
The Free Shop porch has been busy with people donating and shopping. Happy Holidays everyone and Happy New Year! I can't wait to see what 2020 will have in store for Free Shop Coaldale! Let's get right to it! Our community has raised $130, of the $275 goal, to file tax exemption paperwork. That's a big jump from last week! Our Facebook Marketplace sale is our most successful fundraiser so far. Some raffle tickets have sold too and by this time next week, the winner of the $50 will have already been picked. Good luck to everyone that entered!
December is known as the “season of giving” and you are proving that! Free Shop has received many donations of toys. People have repeatedly told me that they wish to bless other local families with toys that their children no longer want. Free Shop Coaldale also received some very generous donations of new toys this week. I'm grateful that I can be the link between what people no longer want and what others need. See you next week! It took one month for us (you and me) to raise the $125 that we needed to file the Article of Incorporation. I'm ecstatic! (Up until a month ago, I didn't even know what the Articles were.) This form establishes the existence of a corporation in the state. It's the legitimate way to have our name registered with the state. It's the first step for Free Shop Coaldale to become a nonprofit!
The second step will be to apply for tax exemption. That form costs $275. As I write this, we have $12. No worries. If this last month is any indication of what we can do together, we'll have no problem raising the money that we need for this. Once we're tax exempt, I'll start the process of filing for grants. We need grants to pay for rent and utilities if we want to open up our FREE thrift store. I'm excited and nervous at the same time. Thank you for helping me along this journey! |
